At last! After so many months of planning and preparation, we finally celebrated the grand opening of our Centre in Newport.
The event was attended by around 500 members and invited guests, as well as neighbours and interested passers by. Guests included the Mayor of Newport, local Members of Parliament and Welsh Assembly Members as well as representatives of local health and well being organisations.
The celebration was kicked off by a spectacular traditional Chinese Lion dance, followed by demonstrations of the various Taoist Tai Chi† internal arts, interspersed with speeches from our guests and Society figures including Dr. Bruce McFarlane, Medical Director for the International Taoist Tai Chi Society, and songs from a local male voice choir.
Afterwards everyone was treated to a splendid Jai Banquet, prepared by our dedicated kitchen team, led by Tony Kwong and Chris Murphy, who had travelled over from Canada especially for the occasion.
The event was a great success, and congratulations must go to all the local members who worked so hard over the previous few weeks to get the Centre ready for its Big Day. The organising team did a fantastic job to ensure that everything went off without a hitch. The Centre looked truly splendid and all the visitors were very impressed.
We still have some further work to do to finish the job, but our Centre here is now well and truly open and ready to fill up with local classes and events, thus fulfilling its dual role as local clubhouse and Regional Centre.
