International Taoist Tai Chi Awareness Day 2010
Perth 800: information for participating members

Why

  • Awareness Day is an annual event, and this year it's the 40th Anniversary of TTCS;
  • Perth is celebrating 800 years since granting of Royal Burgh by King William the Lion in 1210;
  • We're looking to get at least 800 members doing a Set at the appointed hour.

Where

  • North Inch, outside Bells Sports Centre, Perth; on grass. Toilets & bag storage in Bells;
  • Maps and location information:
    • Bells Sports Centre is less than half a mile from Perth town centre. For Awareness Day Perth 800 – visit Google Maps and search for ‘Bells Sports Centre’ or use this link;
    • Park & Ride facilities – see http://maps.google.co.uk/ and search for ‘Broxden park and ride’ and for ‘ Scone park and ride’;
    • Bus map of Perth city services.

When

  • Saturday 14 Aug 10; Arrive in Perth around 12:00; assemble on North Inch for 13:30; Sets from 14:00-16:00; the main Set at 15:00, simultaneous with Sets around the world.

Who

  • Everyone. All members – old members, new members – plus friends & family welcome.

Travel

  • Based on responses to sign up sheets in class, Branches will charter buses direct to Bells. To be sure of a seat, sign up early. The buses will be FREE, but donations welcomed towards costs of buses (cost to TTCS is around £10/head), either at class or on the day;
  • There is limited parking at Bells. Members travelling by other means are asked to avoid parking at Bells. Relevant maps may soon appear on www.taoist.org.uk.

What to wear

  • A TTCS t-shirt or sweatshirt, any colour, and dark trousers, black or navy. People in non-standard kit may be asked to go to the middle of the Set, hidden from the cameras;
  • There MAY be Awareness Day 2010 shirts on sale on the day (£10), but please don't rely on it;
  • If it's cool, wear layers under your TTCS shirt;
  • If it's raining, we'll go ahead anyway (ask about Awareness Day in Ottawa), but wear a coat under your TTCS shirt. We're planning to have disposable see-through ponchos available.

Catering

  • The café at Bells will be being refurbished, and will not cope with 800 people, but will be open, so if you need to get a soup & sandwich lunch there, please indicate on the sign-up sheet. Best to bring a picnic to eat outside or in Bells, or plan to eat in Perth, from 12:00-13:30;
  • Bring water to drink. We’ll plan to have bottled water on sale;
  • There will be a hospitality tent for Invited Guests – regrettably, we can't cater for members or for the general public.

Accommodation

  • If you need somewhere to stay over, we'll try and put you up with local members. 'Local' may not mean in Perth. Best to get down and back on a Society charter bus if you possibly can.

Questions

  • Ask your instructor, or the Branch Awareness Day coordinator.
